No longer a beginner?

Why having a credit card strategy is important.

Two weeks ago we shared 5 common mistakes travel credit card beginners make. If you don’t consider yourself a beginner, then you must have a credit card strategy. Having a thoughtful one will allow you to optimize your free travel perks and make it sustainable over the long-term. Read our blog post for details, or see the summary below.

  1. Different banks have different application rules

  2. Don’t’ spread out your points too thin

  3. Capitalize on sign-up bonuses

  4. Ensure there aren’t any overlapping perks or earn rates

Credit Card Tier List Summary

For new subscribers, I’ve been ranking the most popular US personal credit cards on Instagram.

  1. Barclays View - Team Cashback | Not a great card, just the former Uber card.

  2. Future Debit Card - Team Cashback | Yes, a debit card, but it earns 5% on green transportation and had a promotion to transfer points to Amtrak.

  3. Truist Enjoy Cash - Team Cashback | An interesting card that gives two options of earning rewards + Truist offers loyalty bonuses for baning with them.

  4. Truist Enjoy Travel - Team Cashback | Not a real travel credit card, but at least it’s a no annual fee with no foreign transaction fee card.

  5. Truist Enjoy Beyond - Team Cashback | Could be useful with its $100 statement credit for a $95 annual fee, but likely not.

  6. Barclays Breeze Easy - Waste of Money | Not worth the points or perks for the annual fee.

  7. Barclays Miles & More Lufthansa - Niche | Controversial ranking as it really depends how much you value the points and the perks.
