Hyatt's Program Goes Further for Families and Groups

The perks, savings, and strategies that make family travel easier and more affordable.

When you’re traveling with family or friends , every small perk counts - free breakfast, room upgrades, waived resort fees aren’t just nice-to-haves, but can make the difference between just a bed to sleep on and a relaxing, fun trip. That’s why I’m a Hyatt loyalist and am making this non-sponsored post about why you should book with Hyatt.

I have two Hyatt stays later this month, and not only am I traveling with my wife and kid - I’m also bringing along in-laws for one trip, and 4 friends for another. In both trips, I’ve been able to get connecting rooms and share my loyalty status to the other rooms gets free breakfast, parking, and more.

Even without status, here are 3 reasons why the Hyatt Program provides great value for your group trips.

Hyatt Points Value

I’ve shown off each year the amount of value I get from Hyatt stays. But here’s a quick example if you’re headed to Disney World.

Normal families that use credit cards, would redeem 21,500 points to book one night at this hotel, since they only get 1 cent per point (cpp). Instead, by getting Chase Ultimate Reward Points and using a Sapphire card to transfer to Hyatt - you can book the same hotel for only 8,000 points, giving you a 2.68 cpp! With a larger group or family, you can basically book two rooms for the price of one thanks to the power of points.

Hyatt Awards

Don’t have Hyatt status? Not to worry - a huge perk of the Hyatt program is the ability to get various awards to elevate your stay, without having any sort of status. No other hotel program does this at a rate that doesn’t dilute your experience!

  • Club Lounge Access Awards - Allow you to access the Hyatt lounges when available. Inside is usually free breakfast, happy hour, and hors d'oeuvres.

  • Suite Upgrade Awards - Apply these to your reservation to get a suite - which has more room for your group

  • Guest of Honor Awards - Grant you Globalist status for the stay, which includes club lounge access, free breakfast, free parking on point bookings, and 4pm late checkout.

Now how do you get these? You can either earn them yourself by gaining nights at Hyatt OR by receiving them as gifts from other Hyatt members. If you don’t know any other Hyatt members, you can access these Facebook groups (1, 2) to trade/ask.

By getting these awards, you can easily elevate your stay for you and your group!

Weekly Credit Card Tip #16

You can get Discoverist status by opening either of the World of Hyatt credit cards. This gives you 2pm late checkout and 2 water bottles/day. Helpful perks for your travels.

Your next steps…

  1. Sign up for a free World of Hyatt account - even if you’re not traveling soon, start earning points on any upcoming stays or transfer opportunities

  2. Search for family-friendly Hyatt properties - the website has great search functionality to divide between brands and categories

  3. Consider elite status and the credit cards - if you know you’ll be travelling a lot, it may be worth investing in status to get additional perks on your stays.
