Hyatt isn't always the best option
The underrated 1:2 hotel transfer play
If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know I default to Hyatt for two main reasons: great point redemptions and loyalty status perks.
But there’s one hotel program that doesn’t get talked about enough - most people overlook it entirely.
Not because it’s bad, but because it’s smaller, less status driven, and not as flashy.
Take a look at Choice Hotels.
From an initial search, you probably think I’m a fool - 40,000 Hyatt points to stay at a Park Hyatt vs. 40,000 Choice privilege points to stay at a mid-tier hotel in New York?
But here’s the secret sauce - Citi ThankYou points and Wells Fargo points transfer to Choice Hotels at a 1:2 ratio. That’s literally a usual 100% transfer bonus - now that 40,000 points Choice hotel is only 20,000 points.
Maybe you’re like me and you’ll stay at a Hyatt no matter what, but I know there are many of you budget travelers out there that would rather stay at a solid hotel for two nights than a luxurious hotel for just one.
In other examples, not only does the math compete with Hyatt - it can sometimes beat Hyatt’s hotel options.
I broke down 3 examples in the blog post - give it a look and see if Choice hotels is the way to go.
