Hotel Review: Park Hyatt Maldives - Hadahaa

And Grand Hyatt Athens

Last week, I dove into the details on the first and business class flights I took to the Maldives. Today, not only am I sharing the blog post reviewing the hotels I stayed at, but for newsletter subscribers only, I’ll also share my full hotel bill. This way, you can fully compare the cost I paid versus the cost other people are paying.

I used 9,000 points to book one night at the Grand Hyatt Athens, which saved me over ~$150 between the room, food from the lounge, and other smaller amenities.

I used 140,000 points and a free night certificate to book the Park Hyatt Maldives - Hadahaa, saving me thousands. Plus, with my Globalist status, I got a couple additional perks of free drinks and food. Read more about my review in the blog post.

Our Final Hotel Bill (Newsletter Exclusive)

Even though I used a lot of points, the Maldives was still expensive, especially on our little island that had to transport food and supplies from far away. It was a vacation treat for us, and now we get to share the cost breakdown.

Description

Cost

Rationale

3 night upgrade into the overwater villa

$2,104.30

The initial 35,000 points only provided the beach villa and I couldn’t use points to upgrade.

Plane ride and sea boat transfer (round-trip)

$1,149.98

After we landed in Male, we had to take an hour plane ride south and an hour boat ride to actually get to the island. This was organized and charged by the hotel.

The Dining Room Lunch

$132.70

We only ordered two entrees for lunch after arriving. They were good… but expensive.

KOI

$324.10

As sushi-lovers, we couldn’t resist the overwater sushi restaurant one night.

Island Grill

$558.89

Our most expensive dinner consisted of all-you-can-eat traditional island fare. We ate 8 lobster to try to get our money’s worth.

Total

$4,271.07

Yes, $4.2K is a lot to spend on a remote island for 5 days. But considering, I would have paid almost $5K additionally if I didn’t use points, this was a great deal. And only spending $800 on the flights to get to the Maldives and back, when it should have been $38K, helps calm the sticker shock.
