Happy 4th of July!
Don't forget shopping portals
Happy Early 4th of July! As with most holidays, there are sales and shopping promotions all around. Don’t forget to use shopping portals when making any online purchases this week for extra value.
Here’s a quick tip to get you extra points and miles on things you’re already going to be purchasing. Utilize a shopping portal like Rakuten where you can get cash back or Amex points or an airline shopping portal to get miles. It’s pretty quick to sign-up and install their add-ons. While shopping, their pop ups will notify you to activate, and after you checkout, you can get additional miles and points with just one extra click.
Top Left: Rakuten | Top Right: American Airlines Shopping l
Bottom Left: Cash Back Monitor | Bottom Right: Capital One Shopping
If you really want to optimize, you can use cashbackmonitor.com to find the shopping portal with the highest offer. This can also be stacked with credit card offers, so happy shopping!
If you’re interested in signing-up you can also receive some bonuses below (and help us out with the referral).
Rakuten: Get a $30 bonus when you spend $30.
Honey: $5 after your first purchase.
Kudos: $20 after you make a purchase with a Boost merchant site (otherwise only $2.5).
Capital One Shopping: looks like no more referral bonuses at this time
American Airlines, United, Southwest, etc. do not have referral promotions.
For new subscribers, I’ve been ranking the most popular US personal credit cards on Instagram.
Fidelity Rewards - Keeper | One of the only “cashback” cards to get a high rating simply because it’s 2% that goes into an investment account. Instead of treating it as free money to spend like all other cards, this 2% forces you to grow your money.
Robinhood Gold - Niche | 3% back if you’re already paying for Robinhood Gold subscription is decent if you’re going for simplicity. Otherwise you have to spend $167 extra per month to just break even compared to a 2% card.
Wells Fargo Active Cash - Support | Now that Wells Fargo allows you to transfer points, this 2% earner is on the same tier as its competitors.
Apple Card - Useless | With so many simple 2% earners, this card only gets 2% when using Apple Pay and distracts from better cards.
Paypal Cashback Mastercard - Cashback | 3% back on Paypal purchases could work for some people, but otherwise it’s a normal cashback card.
Synchrony Premier Mastercard - Cashback | 2% back on everything, but no sign-up bonus
Alliant Cashback Visa Signature - Cashback | 2.5% back on everything if you meet their minimum deposit requirements, which are actually decent products.
Our lineup for this week is below. See our rationale here just for newsletter subscribers like you.
Matthew: World of Hyatt | American Express Gold | Chase Sapphire Reserve | Citi Custom Cash | Capital One Venture X
Sarah: American Express Gold | Capital One Venture X
