Don't trust the MLM travel agents

Watch our newest podcast with Halycon Adventures

Gone are the days of going into a travel agency office at the mall to plan an upcoming trip. Many of you likely are DIY’ers, especially in the points space.

Editor’s Note

The new Chase Sapphire Reserve card officially announced details yesterday, so instead of saving our thoughts for next week’s newsletter, you can read about our thoughts and what you could be doing about it right here, right now.

Now you have a bunch of MLM’s telling you to quit your job to be a travel agent so you can get discounts on your own travel. ALL FROM HOME TL;DR they work by getting you to sign up and get some of your commission. Then you’re more incentivized to get others to sign up rather than actually plan travel.

But let’s be honest, you wouldn’t trust a travel agent who’s never traveled, just like how you wouldn’t trust a mechanic that’s never driven a car.

I chatted with Colby the other day about his passion for travel and seeing the world. He’s a traveler first, travel agency second. Tune in as I ask him about how he provides for his clients - who range from high spenders to budget travelers - AND how he shares about his own limitations.

Colby is the real deal - he’s helped me with some travel advice outside of the points world. Check out his website and at least follow him on the socials - you’ll definitely learn a thing or two and get inspired.

Weekly Credit Card Tip #20

Not all hotel programs - especially boutique ones - are available on points. If you want to use points instead of cash, one option is to book with a credit card and then erase the charges by using points as statement credit. OR if they are on some travel portals, you could consider booking through them - just read our post from 2 weeks ago to know the dangers.
