Deep Dive: Oahu on Points

Hawaii Part 2

It’s been a few weeks since we got back, but here’s the in-depth look on how we booked a week stay in Oahu and a business class flight back all on points. Watch our vlog below or read more details in our blog post.

From a high-level, here’s our breakdown of what we booked:

  • Hotel: Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach (5 nights) cost 115,000 points. The base price at time of booking was $2,088.85, but we estimate higher value from the Globalist perks of resort fee waiver ($49/day), free parking ($55/day), upgrade to ocean view ($50/day), free breakfast ($50/day), and free snacks at the club lounge.

  • Flight: United Polaris Business Class (HNL-IAD) cost 270,000 points and $11.20. The cash price at booking was $6,302 and there are no other direct flights.

Credit Card Tier List Summary

For new subscribers, I’ve been ranking the most popular US personal credit cards on Instagram. If you want the full list access online and for bonus content, purchase lifetime access here.

  1. Citi Presitge - Keeper | No one can get this card anymore, so if you have it, it’s worth keeping for all the benefits, especially the hotel 4th night free.

  2. Citi Custom Cash - Must Have | You get 5% (up to $500 spend per billing cycle) on the category of your choosing. You can also have multiples of these to help flesh out your wallet

  3. Citi Rewards+ - Support | Gives you 10% back on points up to 100,000 redeemed per year, which is a lot of value.

  4. Citi Simplicity - Intro | Another run-of-the-mill balance transfer card

  5. Citi Diamond Preferred - Waste of Money | A worse version of the Simplicity with a higher (5%) balance transfer fee and late fees ($41)

  6. Bilt - Support | Huge rant over on the Instagram, but basically it’s nice that you get points from rent, but it’s really not worth getting the card in my opinion.

  7. US Bank Altitude Reserve - Team Cashback | Decent travel perks, but you’re still getting cashback only. At least it beats the Apple Pay since you get 3% on mobile wallet payments.
