Choosing a premium travel card based on your airport

Many of you struggle to know which premium travel credit card to get. Last year we wrote a general guide using our home airport, IAD Dulles, as an example. What about your own airport? We took a look at some of the largest or popular airports in the US and gave our opinion as to which card(s) would be best for you to get. Hope it helps - and as always, take a look at our referral links to support us if you can.

See our Venn Diagram below, and then read the rationale here.

Capital One Landing at DCA Review

If you’re a frequent flyer out of the DCA airport, check out one of our subscriber’s reviews and pictures! This is why we recommend getting the Capital One Venture X for this airport.

The food at Capital One Landing at DCA

On my way to my annual Christmas/New Years vacation, I checked out the all-new Capital One lounge called the Capital One Landing at DCA. Checking in was easy with just a quick scan of my boarding pass and the hostess taking me to a reserved table. Unlike at Dulles which has an open seating concept, tables are assigned to a specific traveler. At your table, you can order tapas-style dishes from the website and staff will deliver the food to you. No need to go up to a buffet and grab your own - all about service here at DCA! I tried the carne asada, croquettes, and a variety of other Spanish food curated by the acclaimed Jose Andres Group. Everything was incredible. I’m so grateful that now I don’t have to settle for fast food or sandwiches at DCA while I’m traveling and can get awesome Spanish food for free with my Capital One Venture X card. I asked to take a couple items to-go as my plane was getting ready to board, but they sadly did not allow food to be taken out of the lounge and didn’t have any grab and go options. This was within the first few weeks of opening, so it may have changed by now. DCA has always been my favorite departure airport in the region because it’s so close to where I live. But, with this new lounge as well as with a variety of improvements to the airport itself, it’s further getting ahead of the IAD experience.

Weekly Credit Card Tip #7

Last week we talked about finding the best Amex bonus. With Chase, things work a little differently. The bonus differ less drastically - usually based on public offer, referral offer, and mail-in offer. As an extra tip, Chase is more likely to match an offer after you apply for a lower one - even if the offer has expired.
